Your 67 minutes

Nelson Mandela spent 67 years making the world a better place.  We're asking you for 67 minutes to spend learning, teaching and engaging with the problem of hunger in South Africa.  Here is your action plan:

Learn about hungerLEARN about hunger: Spend the next 15 minutes browsing the www.foodbank.org.za website, focusing on the problem of hunger in South Africa (and the global situation), and how you can be a part of solving it.  Watch a video on how this solution was put in place in Cape Town, our first FoodBank, and our plans to roll-out 20 FoodBanks by the end of 2011.

Learn about hungerTEACH your children: Download Hunger Bytes, an set of 4 entertaining but educating exercises for your children around the subject of hunger.  Try and draw how hunger feels, count how many South Africans go hungry daily, and track our progress as we build new FoodBanks. [Hunger Bytes is a PDF and requires Acrobat Reader.]

Learn about hungerENGAGE your community: Download the Placemat for the Hungry, and use it as a conversation piece for discussing hunger with your friends and in your community.   You can engage others at work by putting the placemat out at lunch-tables, at your local coffee shop or restaurant by asking the owner to do the same, and by distributing it at your faith community as your attend church, mosque, synagogue or temple this weekend.   [Placemat for the Hungry is a PDF and requires Acrobat Reader.]

Learn about hungerMAKE a donation: While the long-term goal of foodbanking is a fully sustainable operation, we require both capital to build the 20 FoodBanks, as well as meet the immediate needs of the hungry.  Please consider making a donation of R 365 to provide one meal every day for a year to someone in need (and if you can, consider a R1 000 donation to provide 3 meals a day for a year).  If you cannot make a R365 donation, our online donations portal will accept a donations of any amount above and including R50.  We thank you for your kind contribution.
