If you are hooked on Farmville, Yoville and Cafe World on Facebook (and even if you aren't), you have a chance to turn some virtual food into real food for the hungry this World Food Day weekend. The Lunch Gang are running a virtual can drive this weekend via SMS and our online donations platform (and optionally, Facebook if you are on it), and to participate you need to do the following: - To purchase your virtual can, SMS the word HUNGER to 38338. The virtual can will cost you R10. If you are not in South Africa, you can donate an equivalent amount using a number of methods by clicking here.
- Your R10 donation will be matched by 6.5 kg of food from corporate food donors, so you will "grow" over R150 worth of food for the hungry - that's around 20 meals.
- If you are on Facebook, you can record your action, much like you do on Farmville, by doing the following:
Performing the Virtual Can action by clicking here.
(If you are not part of our Facebook Cause, you can sign up clicking this
button.)- Fill in the amount of meals you created by using the formula: R10 creates 20 meals. $10 creates 140 meals. EUR10 creates 200 meals.
- Post your action to your profile and challenging your friends to do the same.
If we get 5 000 people to purchase a R10 virtual can this weekend, we will create over 100 000 meals. If we do that, as a nation we can reach the first level of becoming Philanthropists Mzansi.
