Western Province Preparatory School Visits FoodBank Cape Town

E-mail Print

WestProvinceBoysSchoolCAPE TOWN - On Tuesday the 23rd of June 48 excited boys from Western Province Preparatory School braved the fierce storms and arrived at the FoodBank Cape Town warehouse in Philippi. As part of the schools outreach programme the grade 5 boys, under the supervision of their teachers, Oliver Steynor and Andrew Hughes, came to spend a day volunteering in the FoodBank.

The morning started off with Warehouse Manager Elton Leite explaining to the boys what the FoodBank does and showing them what work they would be doing. The boys helped us to deface donated products and repackage them for delivery. The boyish enthusiasm soon turned into fierce competition and the boxes piled up rapidly with a rugby backline being formed to get the boxes packed neatly on to the pallets at a faster rate.

In two hours the boys managed to deface 5670 tins, which equates to 9 pallets of donated product, or 510 300 servings of baby formula. The morning was great fun for all who were involved and the boys were very enthusiastic about returning to the FoodBank soon.

Well done boys we hope to see you again soon!
