Stormont Madubela Primary School in Nyanga, Cape Town, has become a place of hope, opportunity and safety for 360 children. In the past 18 months, FoodBank has provided just under 50,000 kilograms of sandwiches, fruit and dry goods to the school.
The Ubuntu Crisis and Family Care Centre (UCFCC) in KwaZulu-Natal provides care and bereavement counselling to 150 children and 75 adults living with HIV. FoodBank gives this agency 2.85 tonnes of food a month. We caught up with Pumla Mbelu, the founder and manager of UCFCC.
The Tswelopele Frail Care Centre in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, is a home for older and disabled people. Tswelopele – which means “progress” or “moving forward” in Tswana, cares for up to 100 people. FoodBank gives Tswelopele food, including pasta, samp, soup mix, fruit, bread and cereal. We chatted with Sylvia Modiselle, who is the nursing manager at the home.
The Missionaries of Charity is home to destitute men, women and children, mostly HIV positive orphans, in Khayelitsha, a township just outside Cape Town. FoodBank gives this agency about 430kg of food a month.
